An open letter to Rappers
Hello gentleman and gentlewomen, I would like to address the rampant use of possibly misleading lyrics. For the sake of this letter I will use a line in the song ” International Players Anthem (i Choose You) lyrics” a song by Ugk featuring Outkast, namely mister Andre 3000. While I will not be so brazen as to call into question the entire song I would like to point out to you that you may be supporting a line of reasoning that you would regret. I must also mention that Pimp C of the group Ugk is deceased and I hope that this is not then seen in a cruel light, it is simpley that this song has a perfect illustration of my point. The line in question is “Your bitch chose me, you aint a pimp you a fairy”. Now I won’t argue about the word “bitch” or “fairy” because that is neither here nor there, I will however use the term “woman” in place of “bitch” for the remainder of my correspondance. Now I am relaively sure that your intention was to convey both your own Charisma and Magnetism which would attract a rival woman and the fact that any competitor to you is a “fairy”, even if they may fancy themselves a “pimp”. However by disparaging your competitor you introduce a postulate that is not necessarilly flattering on your part. If you are indeed a “pimp” or “international player” of high quality and achievement it would actually be in your best interest to point out your competitors sizeable skill, which would make your wooing of his woman much more impressive than does stealing the woman of a relatively inferior (once again I will not argue the merits of your choice of “fairy” but instead offer my own apology to GLBTQ readers) man. This line should cause a discerning learner to ponder the following question “Can the speaker steal the woman of a man of decent or even excellent skill” as the line currently stands we the listener cannot know. To use a gridiron analogy we know know you can beat the Detroit Lions but we do not have much information with which to predict your success against a superior team like the Baltimore Ravens. I believe you will be dismayed to learn of your unintential implication and I hope you soon remedy your error. I would encourage you to pass future lyrics through a trained evaluator or assesmnet professional in the future. Thank you,
